What decides the cost of getting an animal out of a chimney

We do not publish a price for this, because there is no single job. Two calls on the same street can be nothing alike in what they take. These are the things that actually move the number.

Which animal it is. A bird that dropped into the smoke chamber and cannot climb back out is a different job from a squirrel that has been in the flue for a week, and both are different from raccoons, which are bigger, stronger and usually there to raise young.

Whether it is alive or dead. A live animal is removed and the way in is closed. A dead one has to be found first, and it can be in the flue, on the smoke shelf, in the firebox, or in the gap between the flue and the chase. Once it is out the area normally needs cleaning and deodorising, and that is a second piece of work.

Where in the chimney it is. Something sitting on the smoke shelf is reachable from the firebox. Something wedged partway down a clay flue, or behind the damper, is not, and it takes longer and more equipment.

Whether there are young. From spring through late summer a nesting animal is rarely alone. Taking the mother and leaving a litter behind creates a worse problem a week later, so the whole nest comes out together.

Access. A single storey roof with a shallow pitch is straightforward. A steep two storey roof, a tall chimney, or a wet day are not.

What the chimney needs afterwards. Most animal calls we get trace back to a missing or broken cap. Putting an animal out and leaving the way in open means doing it again next season. Some chimneys also need the flue cleaned once nesting material has been sitting in it.

The inspection is what turns all of that into a number. You are told what is in there, where it is, what it takes to get it out and what it costs, before anyone starts.

Dead animal in the chimney

Most people find out because of the smell. It arrives a day or two after the scratching stops, it gets stronger in warm weather, and it comes into the room through the firebox even with the damper shut.

Flies are the second sign. A cluster of them at a window near the fireplace, in a house with no other explanation for them, is worth checking the chimney for.

It does not clear quickly on its own. Air freshener and an open window treat the smell while the source stays where it is, and through a Dallas Fort Worth summer that can run for weeks.

What we do is locate it, get it out, clean what it has been lying on, and treat the area so the smell goes rather than fades. Then we deal with how it got in, because a chimney one animal could enter is a chimney the next one can enter.

I can't say enough great things about the service provided. Our original service call was for a simple Dryver vent exterior cover. While onsite my property manger and I were discussing what to do with the old wood burning stove fireplace. Eddie was able to clean update and make it look like new in the same visit! Eddie was extremely knowledgeable and helped me keep the added value of the home!

Great company! Very responsive, arrived when they said they would, and completed the work in one day. Orllin and his crew was very professional, experienced, and did a thorough cleanup after the work was done. The chimney looks great!! Working with the company’s owner was mainly through texting and worked great. I felt connected and informed throughout the process. I felt that the price was very fair and reasonable.

Ben & Wilson came ~4pm to inspect a broken chimney cap and give me a quote. The price was reasonable and they were immediately able to begin. Wilson’s a very hard worker! They completed a crown repair, installed a new cap and a swept the chimney before 6pm. Wilson was very careful and there was minimal dust in the house.

I was asking Mike to add an additional intake AC vent for my house and do a cleaning of the existing vents. With all honesty he said with less than 2 year old house no need of a duct cleaning and if anyone suggesting to do it waisting money. That was a honest suggetion that made me so happy. I dont need an extra intake vent either. Thanks Mike. God Bless

Chimney Animal Removal FAQs in Dallas Fort Worth

How much does it cost to remove an animal from a chimney?
There is no flat price, because a bird in the smoke chamber and a raccoon with a litter behind the damper are not the same job. What moves the number is which animal it is, whether it is alive or dead, where in the chimney it is, how hard the roof is to work on, and whether the chimney needs a cap or a clean afterwards. The inspection gives you the number before any work starts.
How much does it cost to remove a dead animal from a chimney?
It depends mostly on where it is and what it has left behind. Something on the smoke shelf is reachable from the firebox. Something wedged in the flue or behind the damper takes longer. A dead animal also means cleaning and deodorising the area afterwards, which is part of the job rather than an extra. You get the price once we have looked.
How much does it cost to remove a squirrel from a chimney?
Squirrels are usually the more involved end of this work. They climb, they wedge themselves into places a bird cannot reach, and in spring and summer there is often a litter with them. The price follows how far down the flue it is and whether a whole nest has to come out.
What animals get into chimneys?
The most common animals are squirrels, birds, raccoons, and occasionally rodents. They enter chimneys looking for warmth and a safe place to nest.
How do animals get into my chimney?
Animals usually enter through the top of the chimney when there is no chimney cap or when the cap is damaged.
There is a smell coming from my fireplace. What is it?
In most cases it is a dead animal, especially if the scratching noises stopped a day or two before the smell started. Flies gathering at a window near the fireplace point the same way. It does not clear on its own.
Is chimney animal removal safe for the animal?
Yes. We use safe and humane methods to remove animals without causing harm whenever possible.
Can I remove the animal myself?
It is not recommended. Animals can become aggressive or get stuck deeper inside the chimney, making the situation worse.
Will the animal come back after removal?
It can if the chimney is not properly protected. Installing a chimney cap helps prevent future entry.
Do I need a chimney cap after the animal is removed?
Almost always. Most animal calls we get trace back to a cap that was missing, rusted through, or fitted badly. Taking the animal out and leaving the top open means the same call next season.
Do you provide general wildlife removal services?
No. We specialize specifically in removing animals from chimneys and fixing the cause of entry, such as missing or damaged chimney caps.
